While starting Ashanti Lodge Lisa was employed as a executive personal assistant to a senior portfolio manager at Old Mutual, Pinelands. Enver Mally, a former teacher, entered the tourism market as a tour guide in 1977. In 1998 he established Grassroute Tours, which has developed into one of the leading cultural tour companies and is now part of African Eagle.
In 1999 he became director of Iliswe, a company which supplies hand-held audio guides to Kirstenbosch gardens and other tourist related sites. In 2001 he co-founded Roots of Africa, a tourism related retail company based in the V&A Waterfront.
Enver Mally has a strong sense of social responsibility towards the communities he comes from and operates in. He is also involved in various community upliftment projects and serves as a trustee on a number of them.
After graduating BA (Hons) from Rhodes University in 1984, Di Thomas worked as an as a stage & screen actress in Johannesburg for 2 years, before leaving in 1986 to travel abroad for the next 6 years. These travels included cycling for 3 months across the United States and for 8 months through Europe, with baby in tow.
On her return in 1992, Di and her husband Steven, began Bikeabout Cycle tours, with 6 bicycles and an old VW microbus. They subsequently teamed up with an existing small company called Daytrippers, which they bought and since then the company has steadily grown into one of the leading alternative and adventure touring companies in the Western Cape, with over 170 bicycles, 8 vehicles, 8 quad bikes and a range of custom-built bicycle trailers in their fleet. Through Daytrippers running of Township tours, Di has been personally involved with a number of community projects over the years and is very keen to devote more time and resources to community development.
