TCDT appoints Trust Manager

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

The Trustees of the TCDT are pleased to announce that they have appointed Bronwen Wetton as their Trust Manager to the TCDT.

Bronwen has been in the tourism industry for over 20 years and has, for the past four years, successfully coordinated projects involving the tourism industry and raising funds to build houses for shack dwellers living in the townships of the Western Cape.

With her passion for the upliftment of grassroute projects in South Africa and a vast knowldge and understanding of the tourism industry, Bronwen will continue to expand our Friends of the Trust and work with our various projects which the Trust supports.

The multi-purpose centre at Blomvlei Primary School in Hanover Park will be the focus of fund raising efforts and ensuring that the project continues to become a reality for this community.

We welcome Bronwen onboard and look forward to working together.

Extraction fan installed in Rosie’s Soup Kitchen

Monday, December 4th, 2006

Last week an extraction fan was installed in Rosie’s newly renovated soup kitchen in Khayalitsha. Unfortunately the need for this fan was overlooked during the construction phase and it was only when Rosie started cooking in her new kitchen that she realised how bad the condensation from her cooking pots is!!

The trust would like to thank George La Hood from Australia who spent time and energy whilst visiting Cape Town to source, buy and install the fan. Your effort is much appreciated George – thank you!

Rosie is concerned about the cost implications of this fan – her electricity bill will definitely be higher. We have asked Rosie to monitor her bills and the trust will endeavour to see that she is not out of pocket. Any volunteers?

$1000 donation from Richard Duane and Gaby Hoffmann

Friday, December 1st, 2006

A huge thank you to Richard Duane and Gaby Hoffmann from New York who donated $1000 to the trust.

Richard recently told us that they had “successfully wired one thousand dollars to TCD Trust. We are happy to be able to make this donation at this time. Maybe you could use it for the renovation of Rosie’s kitchen, but we will trust your good use of it.”

The good news is that renovations at Rosie’s Soup Kitchen are already complete. The funds will be allocated to the trust’s newest project: a Respite Centre for HIV infected children.

I was very pleased to respond to Richard and Gaby with the following:

Dear Duane & Gaby – Bless you! Many thanks. We will let you know when the money arrives in our account and send you a receipt for your records.

I am happy to tell you that Rosie’s kitchen renovation is complete and we are almost finished with construction of a brand new Respite Care centre for HIV infected children. We are at present updating our website, so all news should be up soon. We will also be generating regular newsletters, so I will put you on the mailing list so that you can have an idea of how your donation is being used.

Happy Holidays :)
