The Western Cape makes 1.3bn on major events

Cape Town Events _ SS

According to a recent article from the Western Cape Government the Western Cape is pulling in 1.3 billion Rand from major events hosted in the 2012/2013 financial year.

The Minister of finance, Alan Winde, stated that these 19 large-scale events, listed below, brought in almost 200,000 tourists to the Western Cape.

“The Western Cape is already a top leisure destination for overseas and local visitors. Now we must give travellers more reasons to visit our province. We have proven ourselves capable of hosting world-class events and this is a definite focus area for our tourism industry. Through continued collaboration with our tourism industry partners, I am confident we will see events making an even bigger contribution to our economy,” said Minister Winde.

What we think this means for us here at the TCD Trust is a recognition that tourism is certainly growing in our area and our projects need to be put out there as destinations for tourists to come and have a hands on truly South African experience.
