Chris Hani School

The Trust has first asssited the Chris Hani School in 2004. The Chris Hani School is an independent school in the Joe Slovo Informal settlement in Langa, Cape Town.

The Trust took this independent school in the Joe Slovo Informal settlement in Langa under it’s wing in 2004. A number of initiatives were started to help ease the burden on these enterprising educators.

The project received a much needed boost after The Angel Network, established by popular talk-show host Oprah Winfrey, decided to support the school.

In December 2004 Trustee, Enver Malley of Grass Routes Tours took Oprah out to visit the school and she agreed to pay the salaries of all the teachers for the next 3 years. She has also donated a mini library to the school.

Dr Tim Kuypers, Director of the Network Economics Consulting Group in Sydney Australia, also donated a number of computers and software to the school. The donation included the financing of computer training for the teachers, to enable them to effectively utilize the computers.
